The last of the major areas of turf replacement were completed this week.

Many areas of new turf were laid across the course, with areas of focus on irrigation lines and problem areas of common couch. The majority of topdressing the new turf has been completed by course staff, with a few areas to be finished in the coming week. We look forward to the soil temperatures increasing in coming weeks to promote growth into Spring.

All new turf areas are marked with blue paint and are treated as “No Play Zones”, the Temporary Local Rules detail the play requirements in these areas.

Green Acres Classic - Sunday, 15th September

The booking sheet for this year's Green Acres Classic, featuring a 12:30 pm shotgun start, is now open. Secure your preferred starting hole and enjoy the Gentsomes Ambrose format with your favorite group of members. Please note that the afternoon shotgun is exclusively for participants of the Green Acres Classic, and member accounts will be charged the entrance fee.

Gentsomes is a team event played in groups of four. Each player in the team hits a tee shot, and the team then selects the best tee shot. All players proceed to play their own ball from that spot, placing the ball within one club length of the selected spot, but not nearer the hole. Players then complete the hole with their own ball. Scoring is based on the Stableford format, with the two best individual Stableford scores combined to determine the team score for that hole. Men will score using the men’s stroke index, while women will use the women’s stroke index. Each player must contribute a minimum of three drives and a maximum of six drives, which must be recorded on the scorecard.

For a $55 entry fee, enjoy a day of Gentsomes Ambrose team competition, followed by a beautifully prepared two-course sit-down dinner and prize presentations. Prizes will be awarded for the best men’s and mixed team scores, as well as nearest to the pin.

Founders Cup & Carlyon Bowl Results

This past week saw two thrilling tournaments at Green Acres Golf Club.

In the Men’s Founders Cup final, John Hongmung and James Moorhead faced off in an intense match. Despite John’s early lead, James mounted a strong comeback, eventually winning the match 5 & 4 to claim the title of 2024 Men’s Founders Cup Champion.

Meanwhile, the 2024 L&B Carlyon Bowl was a test of resilience for the 12 pairs that braved the challenging conditions. After facing everything from sunshine to storms, Trev and Julie Cannell emerged victorious with a brilliant 4BBB score of 40 points, winning on a four-way countback.

Upcoming 2024 Club Championships

Registrations for the 2024 Club Championships will open next week, exactly four weeks before the first round begins.

Most of the rounds will be held during the first two weeks of October. Participants may register for either the midweek or weekend rounds, but not both.

A detailed explanation of this year's Club Championships format will be provided in next week's GA News. The format will follow last year’s structure with a few minor enhancements.

Prize money will be awarded to the above winners next week and put into their house accounts. The full leaderboard and results can be viewed below.
