Course Updates

We have endured a relatively wet week with 23mm falling over a 3 day stretch. This has forced us to put extra ropes out to try and protect high traffic areas for the remainder of winter.

The greens have had subsurface aeration this week with compressed air being injected at a depth of 300mm. This practice helps decompact layers below our standard solid-tine aeration depth of 150mm and aids in better infiltration rates.

Final preparation work to the back of the 8th green has been completed with 400m2 of Santa Ana turf to be delivered next week to finish the project.

As mentioned in last week's GA News, we have contractors measuring the area between the 4th green and 5th rear tee with the view to replace the turf that is currently there. The turf is struggling on the back of the last floods with too much silt in the profile, so we are going to replace it. This will be done via the same method of removing the existing turf to 30mm via a turf top make machine and replacing it with mega rolls. We hope to be finishing this project in the next two weeks. During works members will be directed left of the 4th green to get to the 5th front tees until the area is ready to be opened.

Staff are working around the course over the coming weeks to lift any low tree limbs that interfere with mowing operations and areas we have identified where wind tunneling is required to dry out wet areas.

Men’s Foursomes Handicap Final

The Foursomes Handicap Final is scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday, 13th July), with both pairs battling it out for the Michael Kelly Foursomes Handicap trophy.

The final will feature the number 1 seed, Robbie Dicintio and Lachlan Cantwell, facing the 6th seed, Graeme Harris and Steve Poole.

All finalists are looking to mark their names in the history books of this event for the first time.

The match will commence off the 1st tee at 12:34 pm. We wish all competitors the best of luck, and may the best pair win.

Men’s Pairs Aggregate Results

The final round of the Men’s Pairs Aggregate was played last Saturday (6th July) in conjunction with the July medal.

Congratulations to the father-and-son duo, Greg and Mason O’Brien, who took this year’s title. With a combined nett of 140 in the first round followed by a 150 nett in the second, they narrowly defeated the pair of Don Macrae and Rob Mallard by one shot.

Temporary Local Rules (TLR's)

Just a reminder that Preferred Lies are now in play in the General Area only.

The General Area excludes bunkers, penalty areas, greens, and tee boxes. In all other areas of the course, you may lift, clean, and place within 6 inches.

Please note that when taking relief under this rule, there is no requirement to mark the ball as long as it is placed within the 6-inch relief area.

KHRYSP Round 5 - vs Metropolitan GC at Kew GC

Another great effort from the team. Thanks to Jenny for coming off the emergency bench to take Lynn’s place. We hope you’re feeling better Lynn.

The Green Acres KHRYSP team played against Metropolitan GC at Kew GC on Monday. Everyone was delighted with the short drive and up to 8 degrees warmer from 1 or 2 degrees in the earlier rounds. Despite handicap differences in favour of Metro from 3 to 5.5, the team won 2 matches with the overall result a 2&3 loss.

Highlights from the day:
The pin on the 9th invited some risky shots as it was positioned close to the green-side bunker and the front of the steep slope down from the front of the green (similar to our 10th hole). Wendy hit a superb approach shot onto this green, stopping close to the pin; she sank the putt and won the hole; Julie landed her approach shot pin high, on the flat area to the right of the green. Leeanne had a long, downhill putt on the 9th, which she managed very skillfully, while Jenny had a couple of attempts. Heather played steady, consistent golf while enjoying the company of her opponent and having a great win. Jenny had requested to be the emergency player while she worked on some swing issues. However, she was called upon to play at number 2 and rose to the occasion, winning 3 & 2.

Final results:
  • Heather Anderson won 6 & 5
  • Jenny Smith won 3 & 2
  • Leeanne Whitty lost 4 & 3
  • Wendy Hall lost 6 & 5
  • Julie Cannell lost 4 & 2

Thanks to Anne, Team Manager, and Lorraine Woolley, Super Supporter and the Course Notes provider.

Lesson learnt: Handicap differences don’t always count toward the outcome.

The final round is on Monday 15 July at Huntingdale GC v Royal Melbourne off the 1st tee at 8.00am playing 9 holes twice due to course renovations.
