17th May 2024
14th Green

After discussion with our course Superintendent James Stewart, we wish to advise members that after approximately 8 weeks of recovery and laying down pure distinction grass from Carrum Nursery, on Saturday the 25th the 14th green will reopen and be back in play.

Sunday Timesheet alterations

Starting on Sunday the 2nd June, players will have the option to play 9 holes from 12:34 PM to 12:58 PM from either tee.

When booking in these time slots please ensure you select the 9 hole option at the time of your booking so that others know your intention is to only play 9 holes.

Please note that the W.H. Richardson match play rounds will affect the availability of the first tee for the first few weeks. However, once the event concludes, these spots will become available.

This initiative is part of the Golf Sub-Committee's commitment to enhancing the golfing experience for all members.

Pace of Play

Green Acres has invested in the MiClub Pace of Play Module to assist Golf Centre staff in targeted course marshalling, provide round time analytics and the ability to send notifications to members' mobile phones.

These notifications can include information on speed of play, course information, and other important updates. Since the implementation of the module in February, the speed of play has improved significantly over the past few months.

However, members should be aware that if they receive a notification for slow play, the staff will follow these three steps:
  1. MiScore Slow Play Notification will be sent via the app.
  2. A verbal warning will be made to players on course by the Marshall.
  3. A request will then be made that the whole group walks a hole.

The maximum time a round should take at Green Acres for a Par/ Stableford event is 4 hours 10 minutes (2 hours 5 minutes for 9-holes) and for a stroke round is 4 hours 20 minutes.

Overall our larger competition fields on Wednesdays and Saturdays fall mainly within this time frame. On review of all other days of the week, there are currently no concerns of pace of play based on averages.

Car park - line marking

On Tuesday 28th May, all car parks at the club will undergo line re-painting.

This means all car parking on-site will be unavailable from the beginning of the day, as the car parks must be empty. This will cause some unavoidable disruption to Tuesday morning golfers in terms of car parking, but we anticipate the temporary inconvenience of parking on the adjoining streets is only necessary until we have these necessary works completed.

Line marking is scheduled to begin between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. and will continue throughout the day until complete. The work is weather-dependent, so rescheduling will be necessary if rain is forecast.

The Member’s main car park, the basement car park, and the Staff/Director’s car park will be closed to all vehicles so that the contractors have unfettered access, and then each area will reopen as the paint in the car park dries. Witches hats, bollards, ropes, and signage will be present across entry points to indicate the closure of the car park in each area. It usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours for fresh line paint to dry at this time of the year, so we intend to reopen each car park as soon as possible, with the Member’s car park reopening from approximately 11am, with all going to plan.

For everyone attending the club on the 28th May from early in the morning, the only parking options will be on the adjoining streets, until each parking area reopens during the day. Those arriving at the club in the afternoon should find most of the car parks completed and reopened.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate all Member’s understanding and patience while these improvement works are undertaken.

Women’s Foursomes Championship

The Women’s Foursomes Championship Finals were held this week, with the finalists not only looking for a win but to hold up the coveted Audree Howard trophy.

Top seeds Deb Guilmartin and Vanessa Cariss competed in the A grade final against Anne Minter and Justine Grover. While in the B grade final, Robin Dodd and Carol Coghlan took on Vivienne Cashmore and Chris Illingworth.

Both teams were playing exceptionally well early on. In the B grade match, Carol and Robin put their foot down and climbed to a 3-up lead at the turn. Following them, Deb and Vanessa showed their class to be 4-up heading to the 10th tee in their match.

Robin and Carol continued their form in the B-grade final on the following nine to take a commanding win on the 13th green. The final result was 6&5.

The A-grade final was much the same, Deb and Vanessa proving too strong in the end, winning 5&4 on the 15th.

Congratulations to Deb Guilmartin & Vanessa Cariss for taking out the A grade final, congratulations also to Robin Dodd & Carol Coghlan for winning the B grade final!

Commiserations to Anne, Justine, Vivienne, and Chris, who played so well; it just wasn’t their day.
