30, 40, 50-Year & New Member Event

The Club hosted the 30, 40, 50-Year, and New Member Event on Sunday, July 28, with 65 attendees celebrating new members and membership milestones.

Despite the winter afternoon, the event began with 18 holes of golf, followed by dinner in the Member’s Lounge. David Smith won the golf event with 36 points, narrowly beating Lee Webb. To top the evening off, Sarosh and his team prepared a magnificent meal featuring slow-braised Josdale Angus Beef Brisket.

Club Captain Rohan Duncan and Club President Rob Coxon opened the evening, highlighting members with significant milestones of 30, 40, 50, and 60 years of membership and introducing new members.

Richard Farrell, celebrating 30 years, shared his fond memories of the club, while David Robinson received his 60-Year membership certificate, reminiscing about past events, including late-night BBQs on the 12th hole.

Women’s GA Vs Kew Bowl Results

The Green Acres vs. Kew Bowl was played on Thursday, with 7 pairs representing each side. Traditionally, the format is 18 holes of 4BBB, with the aggregate score of each side counting towards the club's total, and the team with the highest aggregate score being deemed the winner. Unfortunately, Jack Frost had other ideas, delaying the start of play and impacting the ability to complete 18 holes before the scheduled sit-down lunch.

As a result, the decision was made to shorten the round and use the completed 9-hole scores to determine the winner of the bowl.

In the 69-year history of this event, with the first match played in 1954, Green Acres had only won the event 25 times and halved 3 matches. Despite the disruptions, Green Acres emerged victorious, defeating Kew 115 to 113 for the first time since 2012.

Congratulations to all the women members who played in the event!

Interclub Round 1 wrap

Congratulations on your great efforts on Friday for the first round of Interclub for 2024.

A chilly start to the day did not deter the enthusiasm and anticipation. With four ‘newbies’ on board, all players were well supported by caddies with years of match play experience to provide guidance. With pre-season training completed, you were well-prepared for the challenge.

Highlights:
  • Lisa got well ahead early and maintained her lead, securing a victory on the 11th, a great debut.
  • Jacqui and Julia were both 5 down after 6 holes but managed to pull back. Jacqui lost 5&4, while Julia fought on to the 18th, where she succumbed to a bunker and conceded the win to her opponent.
  • Caroline came from 3 down early to have a tussle to the 18th. Despite a wayward tee shot that drew a penalty drop, she recovered well only to see her opponent drain a 20-foot putt from off the green, losing 1 down.
  • Anne, Brenda, and Kerry all had solid games, losing on the 17th or 18th.
Thanks for the support of emergency Genevieve and Team Manager Lorraine. It was great to see a good number of GA Women out supporting our team.

Results
  • Anne lost 2&1
  • Brenda lost 3&1
  • Caroline lost 1down
  • Kerry lost 3&2
  • Jacqui lost 5&4
  • Lisa won 8&7
Lessons Learned: Remember to return your ball to the correct position when you have been requested to move a marked ball on the green.

It’s always a challenge to get a win against a host club

We would like to welcome Carol Coghlan to the squad who will be playing with the team next week.

Interclub is about implementing what you have been practising, improving, and contributing to the team. Let’s continue to support each other and bring our best to each match.

Go GA!💚
